Create a healthy holiday charcuterie board for two with these tips for a delicious, festive and balanced snack board!
The holidays will definitely look different this time of year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the foods that remind you of the holiday season and get you in a festive mood!
Making a fun charcuterie board is one of those things for me. Not only is it a fun way to enjoy a variety of finger foods, but it’s also a great way to get in the holiday spirit! I like that you can feel a little fancy with a charcuterie board and a fun homemade cocktail while watching your favorite holiday movie or the ball drop on New Years Eve!
I’m all for adding traditional meats and cheeses, but there’s so much more you can add to a charcuterie board to make it fun, festive and balanced (and less expensive!) ! Here are my tips for a healthy holiday charcuterie board for two!
Tips for Making a healthy holiday Charcuterie Board for Two
- Opt for smaller-sized cheeses. Lots of grocery stores’ cheese sections have a small basket on the side where they offer small pieces of different cheeses. Perhaps the cheese was discontinued, or the end of a bigger piece, making it not only less expensive, but the perfect size for a smaller charcuterie board!
- Add fruits and vegetables. Draw on inspiration from the season to add color and nutrition to your charcuterie board! Think pomegranate seeds, pears and apple slices for the fruit category, and for veggies I love adding tomatoes! The tomatoes I used on this board are called Honey Bombs™ and are golden cherry tomatoes on the vine. I just love how that looks on a charcuterie board and they have a sweet like honey taste that complements a wide variety of cheeses! They’re festive red will add a splash of color to your board and they’re perfect for snacking on or adding to a salad this time of year! You seriously can’t go wrong with any of the tomatoes from Sunset!
- Use a smaller board. This should be a no brainer but it helps to make everything look really full even if you’re just working with a few things on it!
- Opt for whole-grain or sprouted crackers. I like choosing crackers made with simple ingredients, because I will probably end up eating a lot of them!
- Check your fridge & pantry before grocery shopping. In the spirit of less food waste and saving money, be sure to check and see what you have laying around in your fridge and pantry. Making a charcuterie board is the perfect opportunity to use up produce that’s about to go bad and random snacks you might have on hand.
- Add some healthy fat. Things like olives, guacamole, nuts (I love the rosemary marcona almonds from Trader Joes!) and seeds are a great way to add more healthy fat to your charcuterie board for more staying power. Healthy fat helps with satiety and helps our bodies absorb fat soluble vitamins like the vitamin E found in tomatoes!
